I wholeheartedly agree that their faith sustained them through a great deal, including death. I've also read that because an early death was so common, many were more accepting of it, whereas today with all of the medical advances, people have come to expect a cure for their ailments. <br /><br />I always admire those women who managed to find a way to provide for their families, even though they lived in a time when many women were ill prepared to do so. I supp...What an insightful observation about death. I suppose faith and belief in an afterlife sustained my 2X great-grandmother who buried 3 children within weeks of each other. I wish I knew more about her life. I wonder if she was made of strong stuff like Margaret McGrane. Stories of women who pick themselves up and do what they have to do are inspiring.
